Abstract

This classroom action research aims to enhance heterogeneous students motivationin speaking English. Heterogeneity in motivation is the difference between cognitive abilities and beliefs, cognitive abilities and risk preferences, as well as a person's interest in something. A problem found in a preliminary study that one of the best classrooms students had low motivation in speaking English that influence their English lesson score with the average was 76.6. Therefore, this CAR created a solution to solve this problem by using a method named Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD). The subjects of research were 34 students of X-D SMAN 3 Malang. In collecting data, the researchers distributed questionnaire, conducted observation, and administered tests. This research found that in the cycle 1, there was no significant development of students motivation and their scores increase with the average was 80.77. By reflecting the implementation of STAD, in the cycle 2 the motivation of students was increased significantly that affected their score (average: 82.94). This score development happened because students motivation also increased. Students have known how to manage their group collaboration well. They knew how to run a groups activities better than before to achieve the groups goals.
