Strategi Koping Remaja yang Mengalami Toxic Parenting

The negative impact and the fact that parents are the perpetrators of toxic parenting are very painful for teenagers, teenagers automatically carry out coping strategies to overcome the negative impacts and pain they feel. This study focuses on knowing the experience and meaning of toxic parenting and the coping strategies used by adolescents. The research uses qualitative methods with an interpretive phenomenological approach. The research respondents were 3 people aged 17 and 19 years. Data collection techniques using questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. The results of data analysis showed that the toxic parenting experienced in the form of physical and verbal violence, was not supported and appreciated, could not share stories with parents, was restrained, intimidated, and compared. Toxic parenting has an impact on the psychology and physiology of individuals. Respondents interpret toxic parenting as normal behavior, behavior that is not justified, and dominantly has a negative impact. Respondents used two approaches to coping strategies, namely focusing on problems and emotions. The conclusion of this study is that adolescents can use coping strategies that have a positive impact.
