Abstract

This study addresses the increasing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in e-counseling services to support adolescent mental health in the digital era. Despite the rapid development of AI-based counseling technologies, studies examining their effectiveness, benefits, and ethical implications in adolescent mental health services remain limited. This study aims to analyze the use of Artificial Intelligence in e-counseling services for supporting adolescent mental health through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. The study employed a qualitative descriptive design using PRISMA guidelines. Data were collected from Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, Springer, PubMed, and ResearchGate databases by reviewing articles published between 2022 and 2026. The findings reveal that AI-based chatbots, ChatGPT, and digital counseling platforms improve the accessibility, flexibility, and responsiveness of counseling services while helping adolescents manage anxiety, stress, and emotional problems. However, the findings also indicate several challenges, including limited emotional understanding, communication errors, AI hallucination, and ethical concerns related to privacy and professional responsibility. These findings contribute to the development of digital counseling literature by providing comprehensive evidence regarding the opportunities and challenges of AI integration in adolescent mental health services and offering practical implications for future e-counseling practices and policy development.
