ANALYZING STUDENTS' MATHEMATICAL LITERACY ABILITIES IN SOLVING SYSTEMS OF LINEAR EQUATIONS

Mathematical literacy is essential in equipping students with critical thinking and problem-solving skills relevant to real-life situations. However, many students still struggle, particularly with systems of linear equations in three variables. This research focuses on the mathematical literacy skills of 11th-grade students in solving problems related to systems of linear equations with three variables. Mathematical literacy involves reasoning, modeling, and effective communication of mathematical solutions. This study employs a phenomenological method to understand students' experiences and perceptions in mathematical problem-solving. The research involves 25 high school students from Buru, Maluku Province. Data collection included written tests, interviews, and data analysis to assess students' abilities in formulation, employment, and interpretation aspects of mathematical literacy. The results reveal that students demonstrate proficiency in formulating and employing mathematical models, scoring 61% and 75.7%, respectively. However, interpretation skills remain a challenge, with an average percentage of 59%. Interviews provide deeper insights into students' comprehension, indicating the need to improve articulating accurate conclusions. The findings highlight the importance of mathematical communication, critical thinking, and reasoning in mathematical literacy. The research contributes to understanding students' strengths and weaknesses in mathematical literacy, paving the way for other researchers to enhance these skills.Â
Kemampuan literasi matematis sangat penting dalam membekali siswa dengan keterampilan berpikir kritis dan pemecahan masalah yang relevan dengan kehidupan nyata, tetapi banyak siswa masih kesulitan, terutama dalam sistem persamaan linear tiga variabel. Penelitian ini berfokus pada kemampuan literasi matematika siswa kelas XI dalam menyelesaikan permasalahan yang berkaitan dengan sistem persamaan linear tiga variabel. Literasi matematika melibatkan penalaran, pemodelan, dan komunikasi efektif solusi matematika. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode fenomenologis untuk memahami pengalaman dan persepsi siswa dalam pemecahan masalah matematika. Penelitian ini melibatkan 25 siswa SMA asal Buru, Provinsi Maluku. Pengumpulan data meliputi tes tertulis, wawancara, dan analisis data untuk menilai kemampuan siswa dalam aspek formulasi, penerapan, dan interpretasi literasi matematika. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa siswa menunjukkan kemahiran dalam merumuskan dan menggunakan model matematika, dengan skor masing-masing 61% dan 75,7%. Namun, keterampilan interpretasi masih menjadi tantangan, dengan persentase rata-rata sebesar 59%. Wawancara memberikan wawasan yang lebih dalam mengenai pemahaman siswa, yang menunjukkan perlunya meningkatkan kemampuan mengartikulasikan kesimpulan yang akurat. Temuan ini menyoroti pentingnya komunikasi matematika, pemikiran kritis, dan penalaran dalam literasi matematika. Penelitian ini berkontribusi untuk memahami kekuatan dan kelemahan siswa dalam literasi matematika, membuka jalan bagi peneliti yang lain untuk meningkatkan keterampilan ini.
